The greatest love of my life just welcomed a baby with the love of his life.
Let’s call him Summer.
If you knew Summer, you’d understand why I loved him. He has the kindest heart I’ve ever known. The kind of soul that makes you believe good people still exist. And maybe that’s why it never felt right to wish for a different ending. Some people deserve every happiness this life has to offer.
There was a time when I wondered what our story could have been. But some stories are written differently from the very beginning. I’m a boy. He’s a boy. And in the life we were given, there were chapters that were never meant to be written.
For a long time, I thought love was measured by whether it stayed.
Now I think love is also measured by how sincerely you can celebrate someone else’s happiness, even when it isn’t with you.
When I heard the news, there was a quiet ache. Not because I wanted to change his life, but because another chapter officially closed in mine. It was the kind of goodbye that doesn’t need words. Just acceptance.
So today, I’m not mourning what never happened.
I’m smiling because someone I once loved deeply has become a father. And if he’s anything like the person I knew, that little baby is going to grow up with a father who is gentle, patient, and full of love.
Some people enter our lives to stay.
Others enter our lives to teach us what love feels like, even if we never get to keep it.
To the little one whose name the world hasn’t heard yet, you are already so loved. Long before you arrived, your father taught someone else what kindness looked like. If you inherit even a fraction of the heart he carries, you’ll grow into someone who leaves people better than you found them.
Some loves are never meant to become ours.
They are simply meant to remind us that we were once capable of loving someone that deeply.
And somehow, I think that’s enough.
